I found out about MATA in 1994 and took the producer's class. Learning the technical aspects of production wasn't something I wanted to learn or thought I was capable of understanding. Ideally, I wanted to meet someone who would take care of that so the only thing I needed to do was worry about the best way to communicate dog-training techniques. I expected I might do a few MATA shows and that would open the door to do something on Channel 4, 6, 12 or 10. Soon I realized how unrealistic my expectations were. If I wanted to encourage people to be responsible owners and understand that they have the ability to drastically improve their dog's behavior, I had to learn how to produce my own shows at MATA. My new outlook focused on MATA becoming an avocation that I would never perfect but that I could gradually improve upon if I stuck with it.

The MATA staff gave endless support and instruction. I was able to take classes to learn about shooting, audio, lighting, editing, working the MPACT studio and graphics, and I surprised myself by single handedly doing the series for a number of years. But moving to the next level and giving Amiable Dog Training with Amy Ammen a professional look required the expertise of MATA’s Staff Producer Murray Pyant.

Producing at MATA has been an important part of my life. It is hard to believe it has been 11 years. This endeavor is not a means to an end. Rather, MATA continues to offer Milwaukee residents a dog-gone unique and personal opportunity to unleash ideas and creativity and bark out their message.
